When I start it, it is a clicking noise from under the engine. I can see that it is not coming from the belt I don't think. If i stay in park the noise will eventually go away, or if I start driving it pretty much goes away, either way. It never fails to make this noise when I start the vehicle and it has the whole time I have owned it it could be oil draining out of the lifter and so it clicks until it gets oil and pumps back up.. try changing the oil and going to slightly heavier grade, like 10-30.. I'm used to driving a 5-speed, so switching to a 6-speed was a little rough for a few minutes, especially with the Reverse gear being on the top left (normally on the lower right). Anyway, I stalled it out on the lot twice (haha, yes, twice), and each time I stalled out, the dealer had to use a jumper to get it to start again. He said this was a security feature, which I've heard of before. However, if I happen to stall out somewhere without his handy little jumper box, how do i disable (or whatever) that security feature and get going again? They told me to call the dealership, but it's closed, and I need to go out tonight. SO, in short, how do I disable the car being dead after I stall out? 2004 Toyota Matrix. Thanks! car insurance. Volkswagen . How to Clean Aluminum Spoke WheelsAluminum spoke wheels are available on automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles. Spoke wheels have been around since the early days of the horse and carriage. A bent or broken spoke can be fixed. The closer together the spokes are, the more difficult the cleaning can be. Washing the wheel once a week allows the wheel to shine as well as remove any debris that can cause a road hazard. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Hose Aluminum wheel cleaner Wheel brush Rag Towel Step by Step : 1 Park the vehicle on clean concrete to avoid splashing up dirt and mud when using the hose. Clean one wheel at a time. 2 Use a gentle spray of the hose. Wash any debris or dust from the aluminum wheel. 3 Saturate the aluminum wheel with the cleaner. Spray around the outside as well as between each spoke. Let the cleaner work on the dirt for approximately two or three minutes. 4 Scrub the aluminum wheel with the brush. Rub the outside, then remove dirt from the other side of the spokes. Scour the outside and the other side of each spoke. 5 Spray the wheel with one or two squirts of the cleaner. Remove any remaining stuck-on dirt and grime with a rag in case the wheel brush missed some places. 6 Rinse the wheel. Point the nozzle outside and on the other side of each spoke as well. 7 Air dry. You can also use a towel to avoid water spots. Tips & Warnings Always use a wheel brush instead of a tire brush. A wheel brush is a softer material and won't scratch the aluminum finish.
Volkswagen . How to Remove Road Tar From Aluminum WheelsYour nice shiny new car has gotten road tar on the aluminum wheels and those black spots stand out like a semi-truck at a Mini Cooper convention. What can you do? Well, with the proper cleaners and some elbow grease you can make them look like new again. A citrus-based remover, such as Citrus King Tar and Asphalt Remover, may be a good first choice because of its lesser effects on the environment. There are times, however, when solvent-based removers, such as those products sold in all auto parts stores, are the most effective way to remove road tar from aluminum wheels and other surfaces. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Solvent-based remover Citrus-based remover Soap and water Polymer wax Applicators Step by Step : 1 Apply remover to cool wheels. Allow to sit for a minute or two, but do not allow to evaporate. 2 Wipe road tar spots off of the wheel surfaces with a soft cloth which has been treated with solvent. 3 Wash the wheel with car wash soap and water. Rinse completely and allow to dry. 4 Check for stubborn road tar and reapply cleaner as needed until no spots remain. 5 Wax the wheel well with a good quality polymer car wax, such as Nu Finish, which is sold at auto parts stores and most larger department stores. This step is very important as it will help make cleaning your wheels easier in the future. Tips & Warnings Always keep your wheels waxed. This helps keep dirt and road tar from sticking as well as sealing the salt and other road chemicals out. Road tar removers can soften the surface of your driveway so wash them away as quickly as possible. Do not use more remover than you really need to get the job done as these chemicals are not good for the environment. *Figure 5-16: A set of points. The way they do this is simple: Attached to the base of the shaft that the rotor sits on is a roundish wheel with bumps on it called a cam wheel. The bumps are called cam lobes, and there is one for each spark plug. As the cam wheel turns on the shaft, each cam lobe contacts the moveable point and pushes the points open. The tiny space created between the open points is called a gap. Each time the points open, electric current passes to the rotor, which directs the current to a particular spark plug wire. This causes that spark plug to "fire," producing a spark that ignites the fuel/air mixture in its cylinder. The points are then brought back to the closed position by a spring. Problems with points The gap between the points must be set at a enough apart to break the circuit, the current precise width to ensure that each spark plug arcs across continuously and the points burn fires at just the right time and intensity. If the gap out quickly. is too wide, the spark plugs fire before the piston This whole problem is referred to as having yourhas reached the top of its path. This small metal cylinder prevents the electricity from arcing across the gap when the points are open, which would cause the points to burn. Condensers should be replaced periodically, along with the points and rotor. Chapter 12 shows you how to do so. Figure 5-17: A condenser. Other parts found only on electronic distributors Electronic distributors employ electronic parts. The good news is that they tend to be relatively trouble-free. The bad news is that if they break down, you have to pay a professional to replace them. They include the following parts: An ignition module is a transistorized component that triggers the ignition coil to fire high voltage. The module is a "non-wear" component that replaced the old-style "breaker" points in the early to mid-1970s. It is usually found in or around the distributor. Volkswagen . Who was Benjamin Orr of The Cars married to?
Ford F250 Crew Cab. * A triggering mechanism inside the distributor — or on the crankshaft — controls the timing of the ignition module. On some vehicles, this is a magnetic pulse generator called a pick-up coil. Other vehicles use a Hall-Effect switch or a photoelectric sensor inside the distributor to trigger the module. It probably doesn't make much difference which type your vehicle has, because there's no need for you to develop a personal relationship with it. Part II: What Makes It Go?. Other parts found only on distributorless ignition systems Distributorless ignition systems also use a solid-state ignition module, along with the following additional electronic parts (refer to Figure 5-10): t* A crankshaft sensor is a trigger device that tells the ignition module when to fire the spark plugs. V A camshaft sensor, found on some distributorless ignition systems, is a trigger device that synchronizes when the proper ignition coil should be fired. Other Electrical Gadgets The alternator also supplies the electrical current for the sound system, headlights, taillights, directional signals, defroster, heater, air conditioner, and other electrical gadgets via electrical wiring under the dashboard. They are located in a fuse box that is usually found under or near the dashboard. Your owner's manual should show you where the fuse box on your vehicle is, or you can crawl under the dashboard and trace the wires from your sound system until you reach the fuse box. See Chapter 12 for instructions on checking fuses and replacing a burnt-out fuse. Windshield wipers need to be checked and replaced periodically. Chapter 3 provides tips on checking and replacing your windshield wipers.and windshield washer fluid. * Directional signal flashers on your dashboard do more than tell you whether the directional signals are flashing. They also are designed to provide clues to malfunctions elsewhere on your car! Chapter 20 tells you how to decipher these clues and rectify the problems that they indicate. Volkswagen .
